Welcome to Abbey Junior School

Abbey Junior School is within Darlington Unitary Authority and caters for boys and girls between the ages of 7 – 11.  The majority feed from nearby Abbey Infant School.  Links between the two schools are encouraged.  The school was opened in 1957, celebrating our 40th year in 1997.  Recent changes have been made to school security for the benefit of pupils and new furniture has improved their working environment.

There are twelve classrooms with adjoining corridor areas together with a school hall and newly created reference library.  The majority of the children transfer to Hummersknott Comprehensive, in Darlington at the end of Year 6.

Our aim is to provide a warm caring and friendly environment in which the children can develop their full potential with confidence.  Of course, there must be some school rules, but these are kept to the minimum and are for the benefit of all pupils and particularly for the prevention of accidents.  “Walk and talk, don’t run and shout” is a frequently used phrase!

All children wear red sweatshirts or polo tops and a shop operates which sells these tops that depict the School logo.  This is part of the whole school approach with everyone being apart of the Abbey Junior School Team.
